CHICAGO — Some of the most popular and recognizable cars on the road will not be available in new models next year, according to a report.

Robert Duffer of the Chicago Tribune reports more than a dozen car models will be discontinued in 2016 due to multiple factors in the changing automotive market. Some, for example, are repetitions of other models in the family that act simply as “cannibals.” Others were too uniquely designed — or, to put it more bluntly, deemed too ugly by the consumer public.

One of the biggest names on the list is the Dodge Grand Caravan, which the Tribune called “Illinois’ most beloved car” after it was ranked by Road and Track as the most popular vehicle in the state. Others include the Jeep Patriot and Jeep Compass, which will be discontinued as it appears the new Cherokee and Renegade have taken over. Another Jeep model is also expected in 2017.

It also seems that Honda will be revamping its alternative fuel vehicle lineup, while getting rid of some of its current models.
