FINAL: Cubs fall to Mets 5-2 in Game 3, trail NLCS 3-0
CHICAGO — Call it “do or die” if you want — or don’t.
The Chicago Cubs are back in the comfort of home for Game 3 of the National League Championship Series. After losing the first two on the road, the Cubs will face the New York Mets in hopes of avoiding a 3-0 deficit in the NLCS.
Tuesday night will be a crucial game for Chicago; only one MLB team, the 2004 Boston Red Sox, has ever come back to win a seven-game postseason series after losing the first three games. Lose, and that’s the predicament the Cubs will be in. Win, and they’re right back in the series.
Pitcher Kyle Hendricks will take the mound for the Cubs. The Mets will counter with Jacob deGrom.
Cubs right fielder Jorge Soler, who did not start Game 2, is back in the lineup for Game 3.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 central.
