CHICAGO -- The 90-year-old Union Station will undergo some major upgrades to handle all of the travelers and be competitive in the 21st century.

Mayor Emanuel and transit leaders unveiled on Friday plans to create commercial development, improve concourses, and widen platforms for better safety. They would also like to sell air rights over train tracks to high-rise developers.

The heating system is also being upgraded, and the Metropolitan Lounge for Business Class and Sleeping Car passengers is being relocated and enlarged.
