CHICAGO — Metra riders, get ready to dig a little deeper for your commute.

A fare hike is expected in February. Most riders will likely shell out about $2.50 more a month.

The 2016 proposed budget includes a small list of improvement projects. The agency plans to put off hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of needed work because state funding is frozen.

Metra’s board is expected to consider the fare hike at its meeting Thursday night. Final approval will happen next month.
