$2 billion of unclaimed property in Illinois: Find out if it belongs to you

CHICAGO — There’s billions of dollars in unclaimed property just sitting in the State Treasurer’s office –it could belong to you, or someone you know.

You can search for unclaimed property or money on the iCash website.

There is more than $2 billion owed to people, non profits and businesses throughout the state of Illinois.

Property is the term used for bank accounts, proceeds from insurance policies and refunds on utility bills.

According to the treasurer’s office, a lot of this unclaimed money is a nice chunk of change–worth $1,000  or more.

You can find out if you– or someone you know– is owed money by going to the iCash website.

Local and regional newspapers are also printing the names of people owed money beginning today and running through the end of the month.
