McGraw-Hill to rewrite textbook after mom’s complaint

HOUSTON — A mother from Houston singlehandedly convinced a major publisher to change one of its textbooks.

The book “World Geography” refers to African slaves as “workers” and “immigrants.”

Roni Dean-Burren posted a Facebook message that said the book whitewashes the role of slavery in building America.

Publisher McGraw-Hill got the message. It’ll change the book to refer to the slave trade as a “forced migration” and “slave labor.”
