MCHENRY COUNTY — Classes are canceled today and Tuesday for students in McHenry High School District 156.

The union representing striking teachers and the school board met for 12 hours Sunday.

Both sides agreed there was movement, but not enough to come to an agreement.

They’ve been at odds over pay and insurance contributions.

The district wants to eliminate the current salary schedule.

The teachers are fighting to keep it, saying it rewards loyal teachers.

Negotiations will resume Tuesday night.

Some students are upset because the strike, which began on Thursday is now affecting homecoming week.
