INDIANAPOLIS -- The death of a suspected teenage shoplifter is under investigation.

An Indianapolis police officer confronted 18-year-old Terrell Day at a Burlington Coat Factory on Saturday.

Day eventually surrendered outside.

An ambulance was called when he complained he had trouble breathing.

Emergency crews checked on him, but they said he was well enough to be arrested.

But as he was being transported in a police vehicle, Day complained about having breathing issues again.

They got worse and a second ambulance was called.

He died inside.

An autopsy will be conducted to find the cause of death.
