CHICAGO — United Airlines is phasing out moving walkways from its terminal at O’Hare.

There are eight walkway belts in Concourse C of Terminal 1. They were installed more than 20 years ago to help passengers get through the terminal faster. But a United spokesman says removing the walkways will make it easier for customers to move both lengthwise and across the width of the concourse.

The move would also free up space for more retail stores and food-and-beverage concessions to generate more revenue for the city.
