WHEATON, Ill. — A 62-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting and stabbing to death a 15-year-old suburban Chicago girl 30 years ago is scheduled to appear in a DuPage County courtroom.

Michael R. Jones's scheduled court appearance Monday comes one day after he was arrested at his home in Champaign on Sunday.

Jones is suspected of sexually assaulting and killing Kristina Wesselman. The girl's body was found in a field in unincorporated Glen Ellyn on July 21, 1985, hours after her mother called police to report that she did not return home from the grocery store that day as expected.

The DuPage County Sheriff's office says the department's cold case unit received new information in the case this month but has not said what that information was. Jones is in DuPage County Jail.
