Darien school dismisses students normally after gunshot reported nearby

DARIEN, Ill. -- Willowbrook police are investigating a suspicious incident that happened near Hinsdale South High School in Darien, Ill., Tuesday.

At about 10:52 a.m., officers responded to the 7400 block of Tennessee Drive for a report of a gunshot sound. At a nearby apartment complex, police discovered a patio window damaged by a bullet.

No one was home and there were no injuries. There is no threat to the public at this time.

Earlier Tuesday, there was a "shelter in place" at the Hinsdale South High School around 11:15 a.m. Students were still able to move around the building between classes, they just couldn't go outside. It was eventually lifted around 2 p.m., and students were dismissed normally at about 3 p.m.

During the shelter in place, parents received text alerts about what was going on.
