Man dies after being rescued from Lake Michigan

CHICAGO – A 36-year-old man has died after being pulled from Lake Michigan, near 31st Street Beach.

He was walking along the shore of the beach with two companions when he went into the water just before 12 a.m.  Police say the man became distressed and someone called 911.   Helicopters were called in to search for him.  He surfaced on the beach and was in critical condition when rescue crews pulled him from the water.

He was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he died.

Foul play is not suspected.
