PALOS PARK, Ill. — A car crashed into a tree after high-speed police chase early this morning in Palos Park.

At about 1 a.m. police spotted the car driving aimlessly near 131st Street and 88th Avenue.

The driver took off when officers tried to follow.

Police say the driver made a sudden turn, lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree.

As the officer approached the car, the driver fled.

"When he took off on foot, we notified additional units," said Palos Park Police Chief Joe Miller. "We had Orland Park. We had Cook County. We had a K-9 unit from Bedford Park. We requested a helicopter to do an overfly of the area to see if we could find the suspect."

Police have identified the suspect and are working with the family to get him to turn himself in.
