FOX LAKE, Ill. --Authorities in northern Illinois have expanded their search for three suspects wanted in the shooting death of a police officer.

It has now more than a full day since 32-year veteran Lt. Joseph Gliniewicz was gunned down.

Lake County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli says local and state police have been conducting "saturation patrols" in the Fox Lake area since late Tuesday night when they exhausted a search of a tighter, two-square-mile perimeter.

Covelli says that besides catching the offenders, the heavy police presence is meant to reassure the community.

The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force Cmdr. George Filenko said investigators plan on going over surveillance video that they obtained Tuesday from surrounding businesses and home. They also plan to re-canvass businesses and residential areas in search of obtaining more video and to see if anyone saw anything.  Filenko said more than 100 officers continued searching for the suspects.

The fugitives have managed to elude an extensive search effort that included several helicopters with heat sensors, hundreds of police officers from across the state, U.S. Marshals and at least 40 search dogs.

Police say they are searching for two white men and one black man, and people in the community should consider them to be armed and dangerous.

Residents in the area are advised to stay indoors and report anything suspicious.

Seven schools in the area have been canceled for Wednesday.

Gliniewicz, 52, was involved in several youth programs in the area. He had a wife and four sons.

A vigil is expected to be held tonight in his honor.
