LOS ANGELES — After Jake Arrieta broke their four game losing streak with a no-hitter, the Cubs were feeling pretty comfortable, but Joe Maddon apparently wanted them to get even more cozy.

He planned a “onesies” trip back home from L.A. to Chicago, encouraging all players to wear pajamas and onesies on the overnight flight. According to MLB.com, almost everyone participated.

Kris Bryant donned a Ninja Turtle onesie, Starlin Castro had a Mario Bros. get up, and Jason Hammel and James Russell both found some camo fleeces. Arrieta even wore his mustachioed PJ’s during the postgame press conference.

This is just the latest in Maddon’s antics, which have included a DJ performance during spring training, cancelled batting practice the week of “American Legion,” and a magician in the clubhouse in New York.

“It’s more to stay in the present and not get too caught up in the whole thing,” Hammel told MLB.com. “There’s pressure in the situation we’re in, and the playoffs are an important thing and you have to keep your head on straight. This is a fun side trip you can go on and have some fun with it and keep the nerves at bay, I guess.”

And on top of that, it made for some good pictures.
