SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A state trooper who was dragged for several miles after his motorcycle was struck by a car and trailer on a Michigan highway has died.

The Michigan State Police say 38-year-old Trooper Chad Wolf died in a hospital from injuries suffered in the Friday morning crash near Interstate 75 north of Detroit.

Wolf was on patrol when a 72-year-old motorist hit the motorcycle while changing lanes sometime before 6:30 a.m. Wolf was trapped beneath the car or trailer.

The driver eventually stopped after pulling into a rest area. He was cooperating with investigators. No charges were immediately filed.

Wolf joined the state police in 2008 and has served posts in the Jackson, Flint and Detroit areas.
