ROBBINS, Ill. — Cook County authorities say two people have been charged for allegedly drag racing in suburban Chicago and causing a crash which killed a couple and injured their three children.

The sheriff’s office announced on Sunday that 25-year-old Douglas McGrew of Robbins and 41-year-old Craig Stevenson of Lynwood face reckless homicide. McGrew also was charged with aggravated DUI.

A 43-year-old woman and her 59-year-old husband, both from Robbins, were killed. Their children, ages 4, 7 and 8, were hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Community vigils for the family were held over the weekend. Robbins Police Chief Mitchell Davis says the entire community is like “extended family” and is in mourning.

It was immediately unclear whether McGrew and Stevenson had attorneys. Listed phone numbers could not be immediately located.
