HOUSTON, Tex. – Police arrested a suspect overnight in connection with the deadly shooting of a sheriff’s deputy in suburban Houston.

Deputy Darren Goforth was shot several times at point-blank range, execution-style,  while he was pumping gas last night.

Police say the gunman walked over to him and shot him several more times as he was lying on the ground.  Goforth died.

The man took off and police started a county-wide manhunt.  Police arrested the man at an apartment after getting a tip. Images of the man were caught on surveillance cameras at the gas station. Police also got a picture of a maroon-colored truck he was driving.   A truck matching that description was found parked at the same house.

Police say the attack was not provoked.

Goforth, 47, was a 10-year veteran of the force. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
