CHICAGO -- Mayor Rahm Emanuel is kicking off a program that provides a free city college education.

About 3,000 students applied for the Star Scholarship program.

1,000 of them were accepted.

The students will now develop their skills in a college curriculum that was partly developed by the industries looking to hire.

Mayor Emanuel says the program is already helping college students of the future.

He says it gets parents talking to their children in high school about getting good grades.
