NEW LENOX, Ill. –- This school year will be the last for a high school in the south suburbs.

School board members for Lincoln-Way District 210 voted to close Lincoln-Way North next fall.

Nearly 2,000 students in Manhattan and Mokena will go to Lincoln-Way West in Frankfort.

The district has financial problems, so it had to decide whether to close a school, raise taxes, or cut extracurricular activities.

Their parents say the board should have left north open because it’s one of the newer buildings.

Board members say they wanted to keep the largest campuses, central and east open, in case they ever have to close a second school.
