REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Video-game maker EA Sports has announced it is dropping Patrick Kane from the cover of its upcoming “NHL 16” video game amid an ongoing investigation involving the Blackhawks star.

In a statement released on Twitter, the company said that Kane will “no longer be a spokesperson for the launch of EA Sports NHL 16.”

It added, “He will not appear on the cover of EA Sports NHL 16 nor participate in any EA Sports NHL 16 promotional activities.”

The company had initially planned to feature both Kane and Jonathan Toews from the defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks on the cover for its upcoming game.

Kane is being investigated in Buffalo, N.Y., for an incident that allegedly happened in his home involving a woman in her 20s.
