HOUSTON, Texas -- A Chicago native was among the eight family members murdered in Texas on Saturday.

Dewayne Jackson was raised on the city's South Side. He was living in Houston with his wife Valerie and their six children.

Investigators say David Conley murdered the family.

They say Conley had a prior relationship with Valerie Jackson, and fathered a child with her. Prosecutors say Conley broke in, handcuffed the family, including his own biological son.

Valerie Jackson sent a text message to her mother out of state saying she was being held at gunpoint.

The mother called 911, but it was too late.

Police say by the time officers got there, Conley had shot them all in the back of the head.
