Three shot, two killed in East Garfield Park

CHICAGO - Two people are dead after a shooting in the city's East Garfield Park neighborhood.

Police say three people were inside a car, driving south in the 500 block of N. Avers Avenue when shots were fired from the sidewalk.

The traveled south for about one block before it crashed into a fence and then a garage.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

The 32-year-old driver of the car and the front seat passenger were both shot multiple times and were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 26-year-old woman who was in the backseat of the car was shot in the ankle.

She was taken to Norwegian American Hospital in stable condition.

No one is in custody.

Area North detectives are investigating.
