Man discovers caterpillar with image of human face
TOUTLE, Wash. — Is this a case of really good photoshop, or did a man in Washington state actually find a caterpillar with the image of a human face on its back?
Robert Palmer says this is no trick. He discovered the bug sitting on the edge of a trough while he was giving his horse some water a few weeks ago.
His first instinct was to crush it with his cane. But he decided it looked so unusual, he had to show it off.
Palmer, 70, says some people have doubted the validity of his find, but he claims he has witnesses to back him up. Plus, he says, “I can’t even use my smart phone half the time, much less do some special computer effects.”
People around town had differing opinions on whose face the image looked like, ranging from Robin Williams to Edgar Allen Poe.
“One lady told me it looked like the devil. I didn’t want nothing to do with her if she’s seen the devil,” he said with a laugh.
Palmer says he tried to keep the caterpillar alive, but it has since died. He has sent a photo of it to various wildlife experts but, so far, no one has been able to identify what kind of caterpillar it is.
