Charges filed in shooting at Harvey gas station
HARVEY, Ill. — A suspect is in custody for a deadly shooting at a Harvey gas station in May.
Earl Truss, 20, is charged with first degree murder and attempted murder for allegedly killing Juwan Benson, 17, and critically injuring Benson’s mother.
Police say Truss and Benson got in a fight a few weeks before the incident. Just before 4 p.m. on May 30, Truss entered a gas station in the 14700 block of South Wood St., where Benson and his mother were inside buying snacks.
A surveillance camera captured the encounter. Benson and Truss appeared to argue at the entrance. Truss allegedly opened fire moments later.
Police issued an arrest warrant for Truss on June 1 and he was arrested Thursday in Chicago. He is expected in court for a bond hearing Saturday morning.
