LAFAYETTE, La. -- Authorities in Louisiana have not released a motive of a gunman's murderous rampage in a theater in Lafayette.
Police say a drifter, 59-year-oldJohn Russel Houser, sat alone in the theater, until he pulled out a gun and started shooting randomly. He hit nine people in all, two of them fatally.
Police say he intended to get away, but officers responded almost immediately, and forced him back into the theater, where he took his own life.
Police say they found suspicious items in Houser's car, and called in the bomb squad.
It's not clear what those items are.
