CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla.  — Scientists have identified the best bet yet for an Earth-like planet that might harbor life.

The researchers announced their discovery Thursday based on observations from NASA’s Kepler space telescope.

This “bigger, older cousin” to Earth is called Kepler-452b. What makes this planet remarkable is that it orbits its star at about the same distance that Earth orbits the sun. What’s more, its home star looks to be similar to our sun.

Scientists say it’s the closest thing we have to another Earth-sun twin system.

One unanswered question is whether the planet is rocky. Scientists say there’s a better than even chance it is.

The planet is in a solar system that is 1,400 light years from our own.

First there has never been any planet like Earth found; if there was then NASA would state “we found life”. In fact Earth is the only known living planet; all other planets are considered dead – meaning without life.
To say near-like Earth is also a false statement because it’s comparing dead planets to each other and not comparing them to Earth.
This article is not evidence of Earth-like planets, The mass of those planets is different then Earth which has no bearing on likeness. Mass has gravity therefore too large or too small would force death to life as known. To state simply because of distance with millions of miles as an variable is ridiculous.
Scientific evidence, the evidence which serves to either support or counter a scientific theory or hypothesis. Such evidence is expected to be empirical evidence and interpretation in accordance with scientific method. There’s no evidence of other living planets so no can say there are other living planets. Anyone can state “maybe or could be” and of course that comment is not scientific evidence or proof at all of any living planet other then Earth.

Yeah but you know Joe, some people like looking at artist renditions of “findings” and imagining; like children do.

Joe, it is too early to determine the gravity of the planet. It is not yet know what is in the core of the planet. That determines what the gravity is on the planet more than mere size.
