CHICAGO -- Police have been on Chicago's Southwest Side since Tuesday night, draining a portion of the Marquette Park lagoon. Investigators confirm that detectives are searching for the body of Laneesha Miller, 28.
Miller was reportedly last seen just after Father's Day. Her family says witnesses saw her at 96th and Halsted.
Laneesha Miller is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds, with brown hair and eyes.
Police are also looking for a car Miller may have been driving. It is described as a tan or gray Nissan Maxima with black primer on the rear right fender. It may have an Illinois license plate with the number V242327. There is also a chance there may be a Georgia plate on the back side of the car.
The Chicago Dept. of Water with the Chicago Police Marine Unit and investigators have been supervising as a portion of the lagoon near 71st and Sacramento is drained.
Police are being very tight-lipped about the investigation.
Any possible reason for Miller's disappearance remains a mystery at this point in time.
One gruesome possibility being considered by police is that they are searching for body parts at the bottom of the lagoon.
A source tells the Chicago Tribune that police are looking for human remains after receiving a tip that a man may have killed his girlfriend, cut up her body and dumped her remains in the water.
