CHICAGO -- A camp in Chicago is bringing together budding young dancers, singers and actors from different backgrounds but who share one very unfortunate attribute – a loss of a parent.
The kids are brought together by Brett Batterson, the executive director of the Auditorium Theatre and founder of Hands Together, Heart To Art.
It was Brett’s involvement in the performing arts which got him through the loss of his own father. It is the foundation for the two week summer camp. The camp puts together kids struggling with the same loss and uses the performing arts as a tool, all while providing professional counselors to help in healing.
The program is now in its 11th year and has helped nearly a thousand local kids struggling with a parent’s death, encouraging them to express themselves and build self-confidence for the future.
