Eagle Creek Machining Co. in St John Indiana

St. JOHN, Ind. — Authorities in northwest Indiana say a 59-year-old man was shot to death where he worked.

St. John Police Chief Fred Frego told The Times  Christopher Badten was shot about 6 a.m. Wednesday at Eagle Creek Machining Co. The Lake County coroner’s office said he died of multiple gunshot wounds about 8:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Frego said when police arrived they found a 47-year-old man armed with a gun. He said police negotiated for about half an hour before he surrendered. He is being held in the Lake County Jail pending criminal charges.

Frego said detectives are still investigating the motive for the shooting.

St. John is about 35 miles southeast of Chicago.
