CHICAGO -- Shark attacks along the North Carolina coastline have been making news across the country. The unprecedented number is the result of a perfect storm of conditions.

And shark education is the focus at the Shedd Aquarium’s Shark Week.

The Shedd houses the most successful zebra shark breeding program in the country and it’s Wild Reef is home to a half dozen shark breeds.

For Shark Week, the Shedd is offering a chance to get up close to the amazing animals, in the aquarium and behind the scenes.  Also included are educational displays for the betterment of man and fish-kind.

And while hearing about unusually high numbers of shark attacks is jarring, experts say the entire population above and below sea level will be affected if this delicate ecosystem continues to be disrupted.
