CHICAGO -- Hundreds marched for peace on Chicago's West Side Monday night after a holiday weekend marred by violence.

The Chicago Police Department put more officers on the street for the long holiday weekend, but it wasn’t enough to stop gun violence that left 10 people dead and more than 50 others injured.

The youngest victim was 7-year-old Amari Brown.

He was hit the chest shortly before midnight Saturday when returning home from watching fireworks with his family.

Amari was standing next to his father on North Harding in Humboldt Park when someone up the street opened fire.

Police say his father is a known gang member and the bullet was intended for him.  He is not cooperating with detectives investigating the shooting.

A 26 year old woman was also wounded in the shooting.

In Bronzeville on Friday, 17 year old Vonzell Banks was shot and killed while playing basketball in Hadiya Pendleton Park.

Of course, that park is named for another teen killed by random gunfire a couple years ago.

Banks’ cousin was also shot in the foot.

The family says Vonzell loved to play drums at his church.

The shooter has not been caught.

Agreed, take back my city please and call in the national guard.
    Enough already!
How many more domestic terrorist attacks do we need before we get help?

Why don’t neighbors call authorities on known gang members? Why don’t parents turn their own known criminal children in? Why does an individual marry a known gang member and criminal? Why are parents allowing their children to hang around with known criminals? Why are women having children with known criminals and gang members? Here are the roots the city’s problem. It’s the people and their culture.

The Good Black People of this City MUST Ask, Why are the Politicians NOT Doing anything.

This Would Never be Tolerated in Lake Forest, Naperville, Palos Park.

      FRIDA, Great Comment!

People of Chicago wake up. Your city is being run by corrupt and misguided politicians who will refuse to crack down on criminals. They will tell you that they need tougher gun laws, but Chicago already has some of the toughest gun laws in the country. You need new leadership. Vote for people who will truly be tough on crime. Chicago is too beautiful of a city to be run down the drain by the likes of your current so called leaders.
