EMERALD ISLE, N.C. -- At least 14 people are injured after a deck collapsed in North Carolina on Saturday night.
Police say a family was posing for a photo at a beach house in Emerald Isle, North Carolina when the one-story deck caved in.
A nurse at Carteret General Hospital indicated the injury total was higher than police originally announced. She said the facility received 20 patients from the accident, including three in critical condition. Six are being transferred to other hospitals. At least one young child was among the 20.
One person in critical condition was airlifted from the scene and taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Authorities are investigating what caused the deck to collapse.
