CHICAGO — Organizers of the Independence Day fireworks display at Chicago’s Navy Pier are recommending that visitors arrive early.

The show is expected to start at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is free.

The fireworks are synchronized to music over Lake Michigan.

Organizers say the venue is usually filled to capacity well ahead of the start time and that arriving early is the best way to get a good spot. In a statement on Saturday, Navy Pier officials said the parking garages onsite were already full as of 1:40 p.m. and closed. They recommended nearby facilities.

Navy Pier officials say they plan to close the gates when capacity is reached.
