Bryant supplies fireworks as Cubs beat Marlins 7-2
CHICAGO — Kris Bryant became the first Cub to hit a grand slam on the Fourth of July since 1911, as Bryant’s two home runs and six RBI helped the Cubs beat Miami 7-2 Saturday night.
Bryant blasted a two-run homer in the first inning to start the scoring then added a grand slam in the second inning as the Cubs took a 6-0 lead.
Clayton Richard–acquired in a trade from Pittsburgh yesterday–got the win for Chicago, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out four.
The Cubs and Marlins meet Sunday afternoon for the series rubber match.
