GRAYSLAKE, Ill. -- The Lake County Undersheriff confirms that local police are looking for a convicted sex offender who appears to have cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet on June 30.
Howard Sebring, 57, is 6 feet tall and weighs about 150 pounds. Most recently he is believed to have been living at 394 West Main Street in Hainesville.
He is on parole and was wearing an Illinois Department of Corrections electronic monitoring bracelet, limiting his movements.
He is barred from being anywhere within 1,000 feet of a school or a day care center.
Sebring has an extensive record of violations. He was arrested in March, 2014 for being on school property at Mundelein's Washington Elementary School, even though he is a convicted sex offender. The Lake County State's Attorney's office says he was convicted for that offense and sentenced to a year in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Before that Sebring had multiple felony convictions for failing to register as a sex offender. He has at least one Cook County conviction for criminal sexual abuse of a child.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest. Grayslake police are the lead investigators on this case. They are being assisted by the Department of Corrections Parole Division.
The Lake County Undersheriff says Sebring was reportedly making threats against his own life and having suicidal thoughts at the time that he cut his electronic bracelet and disappeared.
