CPD: Chicago shootings up 20 percent for year

CHICAGO -- Chicago recorded another violent month in June.

There were 13 more homicides than a year ago, including the month’s final death in Morgan Park.

A man was gunned down while driving at 111th and Hamlet.

There were 20 more shootings and 24 more shooting victims than last June; for the year to date, shootings are up 20 percent.

But police say overall crime is down 7 percent from a year ago and down nearly one-third in the past four years.
