CHICAGO -- A former WVON general manager and disc jockey for WVON was seriously injured in a fire Sunday night.

Firefighters rescued Lucky Cordell and his daughter Patricia from their home on 73rd and Euclid Avenue in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood. Lucky is 86 and Patricia is 60.

His family says he has burns on 30 to 35 percent of his body. His daughter has burns on 50 percent of her body.

Both are listed in critical condition at University of Chicago Hospital.

The fire originated on the second floor of the building and appeared to be the cause of the misuse of smoking materials. The home did not have smoke detectors.
