CHICAGO -- In Humboldt Park, where North meets Kedzie, is where Grandma J's local kitchen has met a decidedly bad egg.

Proprietor Layla Malia K opened her small 8 table restaurant three years ago. But It's the locally grown trouble, most troubling here. Sometime Saturday night, early Sunday morning, a vandal threw a brick right through the front door and walked in.

The vandal then stole some money out of the register.

It's change, she thinks, that may be the motivation.  Earlier this month the three-year-old eatery, specializing in comfort food, found an anti-gentrification message scrawled in sharpie on the front window.

Layla says she did file a police report but is having to pay for that new glass on her own. A friend set up a group funding page to help offset the cost of that.

I totally support gentrification of this neighborhood.
The local thugs do not deserve to stay here anymore, move them out!
