Knife-wielding man shot by Crystal Lake police

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. -- A man in Crystal Lake was shot during a confrontation with police officers.

Police say a man in his late 20s had attacked a family member and threatened her with a knife at a home in the 300 block of West Terra Cotta Ave. late Sunday night.

A few hours later,  he broke into a home in the 800 block of Boxwood Drive.

When police arrived at the scene around 2 a.m., they say he charged at officers with a knife.

That’s when they fired.

The man was hospitalized in critical condition.

A police officer was treated for a minor wound.

Illinois State Police are investigating.
