ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A man is traveling from his home in Cincinnati to St. Louis in order to protest a ban on bringing firearms to the St. Louis Zoo.
Jeffry Smith told KSDK News he was inspired to stage this protest in response to an incident that affected a friend of his on Memorial Day.
He said the friend was following the “no firearms” rule, but still wore an empty holster into the zoo, where he was questioned and told the empty holster was inadmissible on zoo property.
An event on Facebook has been created for the protest, with Smith saying rifles and shotguns are not welcome in the protest.
KSDK News reported St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay continues to support the zoo’s policy.
Smith says he plans to arrive at the zoo at 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
