CHICAGO — Wednesday’s expected high temperature, 90 degrees, will be the highest here since 90 degrees was recorded on July 22, 2014 — nearly 11 months ago.

Today’s heat will set the stage for thunderstorms in the afternoon and night, especially south and east of Chicago. Thunderstorms continue at times Friday, then end Saturday but return to the area by late in the day Sunday.

Air quality on Tuesday and Wednesday leaves something to be desired, with high mold counts.

Additional thunderstorm activity on Friday is partially the result of the remnants of Tropical Storm Blanca, whose moisture spreads into the area on that day.

It’s proof that weather systems originating 2,000 miles from the area can bring precipitation to the Chicago area.
