A round of severe weather swept through the Chicago area Wednesday evening.

Several counties including Cook and Will were under warning for part of the evening.

A line of strong thunderstorms developed across southern portions of the metropolitan area after 4:00 pm and pushed southeast during the late afternoon and evening. Rains in excess of one inch and considerable hail accompanied the thunderstorms at many locations.

Hail was reported in several communities including Minnoka.

A few thunderstorms may return to the area mid or late in the day Thursday, but widespread thunderstorm activity is expected area-wide Thursday evening and continue intermittently into Friday. In addition to the threat of locally heavy rainfall, some thunderstorms may contain hail and high winds.
