NBC Sports boss wants to ban NHL playoff beards
CHICAGO — They’re a hallmark of postseason success: The Blackhawks’ playoff beards — an NHL tradition among many teams that spreads from the locker room to the lunch room.
But someone who’s not a fan? The man in charge of broadcasting players’ fuzzy mugs to the rest of the world.
According to the Chicago Tribune, NBC Sports chairman Mark Lazarus wants players to go clean cut — though not for the reason you might think.
Lazarus says the excess facial hair masks players distinguishable features and hurts fans’ ability to recognize them, thereby stunting the league’s ability to develop new stars during the highest-rated games of the season.
Lazarus has voiced his concerns to league officials, but as of yet, they’ve had no comment.
