Meteorological summer began today but Mother Nature sure did not cooperate.

The afternoon high of 60 degrees fell well short of the 75 degree normal June 1st  high temperature and qualified as the coolest open to meteorological summer here in 59 years – since 1956 when the high was just 56 degrees.

Slow warming is expected in coming days, offering some relief from the unseasonably chilly temps.
