CHICAGO -- Once again, another team is trying to shut out the Blackhawks.

Just like the Nashville Predators, the Tampa Bay Lightning has restricted ticket sales through Ticketmaster to only people living in Florida. They also say no Blackhawks gear is allowed in some areas of the arena.

The team has used the restrictions throughout the playoffs to boost the home ice advantage.

This isn't the Hawks’ first rodeo, as we know. This is the third time in six years the Blackhawks have gone to the Stanley Cup Final. They played a phenomenal game in Anaheim Saturday night to win the western conference.

They'll be going up against the speed and size of a young Lightning team that last won a Stanley Cup in 2004. And even though this Hawks team is playing in their third final series, they're nervous and excited.

The Blackhawks are in Tampa today preparing to face the Lightning Wednesday night in game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final.

please do a better job reporting this story. yes, the TBL don’t want people to wear Chicago gear IN THE VIP SECTIONS. i don’t agree with this (as i didn’t agree when the Preds did it), but if you are going to report things, do it properly. bad form, WGN :(

TBL is BANNING Hawks gear, not “…the TBL don’t want.” HUGE difference. And it’s a stadium-wide BAN, not just VIP. Hawks fans should just wear gear under their other clothes. What are they gonna do about that? Strip-search fans? And I think restricting ticket sales may be illegal? The NHL has to put a stop to this. It’s ludicrous.

        TBL ticket policy:
Chase Club and Lexus Lounge ticket holders: Please note that for all 2015 NHL Playoff Games at Amalie Arena, only Tampa Bay Lightning apparel (or neutral) will be permitted in these club and adjoining seating areas. Fans wearing visiting team apparel will be asked to remove them while in these areas.

They are banning gear from the certain areas. period.
i am not defending what they are doing – i am a native Chicagoan who is displaced to Atlanta – and i proudly wear my Blackhawks gear when i go watch hockey in Nashville (and i ask the bars around here turn on Chicago sports when i’m out and about).
all i am asking is for WGN to report correctly and not use clickbait-style storytelling. nowhere have i agreed with the policy in place by TBL.

Other leagues have had this problem as well. The Brewers have sometimes restricted ticket sales when the Cubs played at Miller Park.

I agree…very tacky……but true fans, just chatter amongst yourselves and wear black, red and white……..can’t stop that

  • Realist

Besides we all know there are no fans like the Hawks fans…..you cannot hold us down no matter what we do or don’t wear…..cant take away heart and pride and our team has earned it…….they know we are there……….

How is discrimination of ticket sales against people of certain demographic areas, races or religions legal? Plus, if Tampa Bay can discriminate against certain fan bases, the Blackhawks should discriminate in who they revenue share with. Tampa has taken money in the past but now they have enough money to turn down ticket sales and bar people from wearing NHL licensed apparel?

The Hawk fans bring this on themselves. They are the rudest and most obnoxious fans they have ever been in our area. They show no respect for the flag and home fans. Constantly start fights and pour beer on people. If you cheer for your team that’s ok but stop acting animals then maybe other areas will be more accepting of you.

Yes. Let’s check the score. Hmm. Good idea. It says here that just two more wins and Lord Stanley is going to get another tan.

The Hawks had their time. But it isn’t 2013 anymore.

Good. I am glad. You Chickenhawk fans can stay home and watch on TV.

And if you live here and are rooting for the Chickenhawks, then freaking go home to your miserable city. We don’t want you here!
