Illinois student remains in Scripps National Spelling Bee

Buffalo Grove student Aniket Nuthalapati visits the WGN Morning News. He advanced to the semifinal round at the Scripps National Spelling Bee

WASHINGTON — There’s only one student from Illinois left in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington.

Aniket Nuthalapati attends Aptakisic Junior High School in Buffalo Grove.

He is one of the 49 contestants who made it past the the preliminary round.

The preliminary round includes a multiple choice test with spelling words and vocabulary questions.

The semifinal round, which is Thursday, is similar to that.

The top 12 scores after the semifinal advance to the finals Thursday night.
