Mother, son found dead inside home on Southwest Side

CHICAGO -- Chicago Police are conducting a death investigation after 2 people were found unresponsive inside a home in the city's West Elsdon neighborhood Thursday afternoon.

Relatives identified the victims as 48-year-old Maria Concepcion-Herrera and her 22-year-old son Carlos, who was autistic.

Firefighters were initially called to the corner house at 55th Place and Lawndale just before 3 p.m. for a report of a couch on fire. They discovered the woman and her son dead.

Area Central police detectives are investigating.
