Loved ones seek answers after hit-and-run leaves woman dead

DES PLAINES, Ill.--  A woman was hit and killed by a driver, and then left on the side of the road to die.

It happened after 3 a.m. on May 13 when Vanessa Colon, 31, left her overnight job at a factory to walk home.

But, what happened after that is what Des Plaines detectives have yet to figure out.

Cheri Rivera has known Vanessa Colon for more than 20 years.

The mother of two was recently trying to get her life back on track and was working an overnight job at a local factory.

But on May 13, an unknown driver somehow hit and killed Colon.

Rivera tells WGN her dear friend was walking home after her boyfriend failed to pick her up from work.

Colon who is described as full of life, positive and good to her friends, is now gone.
