DENVER — A Colorado mother’s video on Facebook is going viral after she shamed her 13-year-old daughter for posting suggestive pictures on social media and saying she was 19.
“You’re 13,” the mother, Val Stark, says to the girl in the video. “So why does your Facebook page say that your 19?” she asks. The daughter, whose face appears to be blurred out, remains sheepish as the mother tells her to look at the camera.
The mother asks her daughter why she has photos of her in a bra and lace panties on her page. After the girl begins crying, Stark says, “You wasn’t crying when you was posting pictures on Facebook, was you?”
The mother also reminds the girl she still has a bedtime and still watches the Disney channel.
The video has been viewed more than 10 million times on Facebook, with several thousand shares and comments, and has stirred some controversy among other Facebook users. Some commenters came to the mother’s support, while others thought the mother’s actions went too far.
“[T]his could be kinda traumatizing and could lead to things like a child running away or self harm,” wrote one user.
“We need more parents like this!” commented another.
